Responding to the Plight of the People of Haiti
We are challenged to respond to the cries of the People of Haiti, first in order to provide immediate relief from the devastation that is the direct result of the earthquake that continues to threaten life, physical safety and security, and then afterwards, to join other concerned world citizens to help this poorest of nations eradicate endemic poverty and to develop the infrastructure and institutions which might protect and enable the future of those children and adults who live there.
We ask that you join these efforts with a donation in one of the following recommended ways:
1) Cash donations to any of the Tzedakah boxes in our Atrium will be used for Haitian relief. We will guarantee that these contributions will go only to those organizations that guarantee that every penny will be spent to provide direct aid.
2) We are listing three websites that will receive donations (without any administrative fees). We are aware that there are other organizations that are also engaged in the relief effort, but have chosen these three because of our familiarity with each:
a) The Union for Reform Judaism Relief Fund or Union for Reform Judaism, Attention: Development, 633 Third Avenue, 7th floor, New York, NY, 10017. (Note "Haiti Relief" on the memo line of your check.)
b) The Combined Jewish Philanthropies "Haiti Emergency Relief Fund" or send checks to CJP, 126 High Street, Boston, MA 02110
c) Partners In Health (The organization founded by Dr. Paul Farmer of Brigham and Women's Hospital which has long-established relationships within Haiti and a history of outstanding relief work there.)
