Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO)
Temple Israel of Boston, alongside over sixty other churches, synagogues, mosques and other community organizations, form the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO). As members of Temple Israel, we are all part of GBIO. Through GBIO, we can express the social challenges we face and come together, build power and make change. As part of an interfaith community, we take action to bring about a more just world. GBIO has built and demonstrated collective strength to achieve a wide variety of goals.
Our power to make change comes from building relationships, one-to-one, in small groups and organizing larger actions that hold people in power accountable to the issues we care about.
As the issues we care about change, GBIO organizes anew. We have made significant impact in health care, including:
- mental health care and substance use disorder,
- reducing gun violence,
- criminal justice reform,
- decent affordable housing,
- home ownership,
- and more!
