It Takes a Village: A Dramatic Deep Dive into Nazi-Occupied France

Join facilitator Susan Ridker to explore life under the Nazi occupation via Season 1 of the highly-acclaimed French TV series (subtitled in English), Un Village Français, about a fictionalized French town located near the Swiss border and the Vichy demarcation line that has just fallen under German occupation. Historically accurate, and created with psychological consultation, the series examines real choices people make under impossible situations. Together, we will examine the nature of complicity, and perhaps make connections to our world today.

Our first session on Tuesday, October 5 will be an introduction to the show and to the structure of the class. We will then meet every two weeks to discuss two episodes at a time that participants have watched on their own. Our zoom meetings will begin with some brief remarks by Susan (historical context, series creation information) followed by guiding questions as well as open discussion.
