As American Jews, we all have some familiarity with the everyday life and experience of Israelis. But, in reality, that means the 80% of Israelis who are Jewish. Most of us do not know any Israeli Arabs, have not visited the West Bank, and know almost nothing about what life is like for the Palestinians living there.
This online course, led by Helen Kolsky and Ted Greenwood, will give voice to Palestinians, enabling us to see their life experiences and to understand their perspectives. To do so, we will draw on fiction, memoir, essays, video recordings of conversations with prominent Palestinians, news articles, UN documents, materials from Israeli and/or Palestinian advocacy organizations, and other sources. Bring your open mind and heart as we discuss this material and ‘meet’ the Palestinians who are living in Israel or under Israeli occupation in the West Bank (but not in Gaza).
Registration includes a copy of the book Where the Line Is Drawn: A Tale of Crossings, Friendships, and Fifty Years of Occupation in Israel-Palestine by Raja Shehadeh.
