Temple Israel is honored to celebrate our esteemed Rabbi Emeritus, Ronne Friedman, for a special Shabbat service as he marks an extraordinary milestone—50 years in the rabbinate. Join us to hear Rabbi Friedman speak on the magic, mystery, and meaning of the menorah: a textual scavenger hunt to discover the remarkable evolution of one of Judaism's most significant symbols.

Rabbi Emeritus Ronne Friedman
Rabbi Friedman served as the Senior Rabbi of Temple Israel of Boston from 1999 to 2016, guiding and enriching our community with his wisdom and leadership. His distinguished career also includes serving at North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, Illinois, and Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo, NY.
A graduate of Lafayette College with a B.A. in English Literature, Rabbi Friedman earned his M.A. in Hebrew Literature and was ordained in 1975 by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, which later awarded him a Doctorate of Divinity (honoris causa) in 2000.
Throughout his career, he has held numerous leadership roles, including serving on the Joint Placement Commission and the Board of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.
This year, we are honored to celebrate Rabbi Friedman’s 50 years in the rabbinate, recognizing his profound impact on our community and beyond with a special tribute and festivities in his honor.
